đ Wisdom for your job seeking journey
+ Position yourself for a lifetime of career success in tech
Hey, friendly reminderârecruiters want you to land the position.
+ Companies need workers as much as you need a job.
You arenât begging or asking for favors when applying to jobs or internships. â
Youâre making a tradeâyour time, skills, and growth potential are valuable commodities.
But we can lose sight of this after getting burned by a long line of rejection emails. đȘ
Or worseâgetting ghosted over and over. đ»
So weâre sharing 3 bits of wisdom to shift your perspective of job searching and empower you along the journey.
1. Dream with soulânot ego
When you apply to a dream job, youâll likely imagine yourself in the positionâ fantasizing all the ways it will change your life for the better.
Your imagination is a powerful tool to inspire and motivate you.
But using it this way will make rejection heartbreaking instead of just difficult.
Donât dream of a position changing your life đ itâs outside of your control
Dream of becoming your best self đ it is attainable at any job
+ Over time, you will differentiate opportunities that appeal to your authentic self rather than those that just appeal to your ego.
2. Reframe your situation
Job searching is stressful. Frustration, sadness, anxietyâall super common.
But it turns out, most of it doesnât come from not having a job.
Instead it comes from feeling a loss of control. đ
With this in mind, we can create solutions to reduce this.
shift your language & add an element of control
Job searching can instead be đ
A journey to get you to where you want to be
An opportunity to explore your options
Time to gain the skills you want
3. Practice gratitude
Resist getting completely sucked into your job search.
Because there is so much more to your life and identity than work.
Humans have a negativity biasâwe have to train ourselves to notice the good.
Shift your perspective from being in lack to being grateful for what you do have đ
Write down 3 things youâre grateful for in the morning
Express gratitude through your faith tradition or spiritual practice
Share with friends and family why you appreciate them
