š How to upgrade from goals to systems
Plus new opportunities at Duolingo, Adobe + more, how to build an app without code, the Anime-Doro method, and more!
Happy Thursday, Tech Pod! š¦
We know you have big goals and aspirationsālanding your dream job in tech is no small feat!
But landing the role is just the destination.
This week, weāre going to break down how focusing on the path instead of the destination will increase your odds of arriving and make the journey more enjoyable.
āļø
The systems ā”ļø goals mindset upgrade
Donāt be a perpetual goal chaserācomparing yourself to others, striving to become a romanticized āsuper productiveā version of yourself, and putting happiness off until the next milestoneā¦(when I accomplish xyz Iāll be happy)
Shift to creating and living out systems that lead you to the fulfillment of your goals.
āGoal-oriented people exist in a state of continuous pre-success failure at best, and permanent failure at worst if things never work out. Systems people succeed every time they apply their systems, in the sense that they did what they intended to do.ā Dilbert Fame
Your goal: Get hired as a Product Manager at Google
Your system: Your unique, long-term path to becoming the strategic, intuitive, and execute-confident person that Google would hire for the role.
An example of a system that leads to the goal:
Being intentional about your content dietāfollowing tech thought leaders, people in the roll, creators with similar goals, etc.
Working on a side project that will help you develop skills for the roleānot just for the end goal of getting the job, but because you enjoy it.
Creating a personalized daily routine to get your day-to-day tasks done (keep scrolling for our take on new Pomodoro techniques)
Ultimately, itās about embracing the journey towards your goal and allowing the journey to naturally bring your goal into fulfillment.
You donāt succeed when you get your dream job.
You succeed each day you apply your system, evolve as a whole person, and are present during it.
And who knows, the journey might take you somewhere even better. š
