Hello, Tech Pod! 💩

We know you — you want to do quality work.

Whether it’s a marketing one-pager, a slide presentation for clients, or even a college essay, you work hard.

And that’s a beautiful thing.

But greater mental strain doesn’t always equal greater results.

Here’s what we mean âŹ‡ïž

Don’t judge if your work is good while doing it

When we’re creating something and worry if it’s good, two things happen:

  1. 🔒 The creative mental space is disrupted and blocked. We can’t create great work while worrying if our work is great— the mind has trouble doing both at the same time.

  2. 🔧 Our mental energy reserves get depleted from evaluating performance, forcing self-control, and anxious emotional expenditure.

Tip: 🔑 Shoot for C. Hear us out – don’t strive to create top-tier work right away. Instead, set out to create average/good work. With the pressure of perfection off your shoulders, you’re more likely to take creative risks, enter into a flow state, and enjoy your work. And, in the end, you’re likely to end up with a B or A product.

The best ideas come when you’re not trying

A flow state is when we’re in the zone – where creativity is effortless and time flies by.

It’s where we produce our best creative work.

But the funny thing is, if we’re trying too hard, we won’t get into it.

Has an idea ever just come out of your mouth and it ended up being great? Like, “where did that come from?!”

Tip: Don’t measure your work by the mental strain you expended on it. Great work, and often better work, can be done without it.

Final words 🍃

We know — telling someone “just don’t stress” can be irritating and confusing.

A more practical step forward can be to learn about flow states and experiment with the principle to learn how it works for you.

Professionals within the business side of tech are thought workers — our careers are based upon our ability to generate, communicate, and act upon ideas.

Freeing our minds from overthinking paralysis is invaluable and likely a key to success in our careers.
