🐋Wisdom for your job-seeking journey II
We’ve got Apple internships for students and grads! And even more opportunities at Kyte, Vivun, Twilio, and more!
Hello, Tech Pod! 💦
This time last year, we released “Wisdom for your job-seeking journey.”
(If you’ve been along since then, you’re a real one) 😏
And we were so happy to see it become our most-loved newsletter.
With autumn (happy fall, btw!) comes student recruiting and lots of workers looking to switch things up. What better time than now to bring it back?
So, without further ado — here’s WFYJSJ Pt. 2!
Let’s go!
You’re farther ahead than you know 🏃♀️
We know you:
You’re striving for greatness, reaching for your goals, and longing to fulfill your potential.
Which means:
Your gaze is mostly upwards ⬆️ — to those above you, to better jobs, etc.
And it’s a gift…
But, it’s easy to lose sight of how far ahead you already are.
If you have vision, determination, and a general idea of your path forward — count yourself fortunate.
The world is a much different place outside of your college, your friend groups, and online productivity content — many people are still figuring out what you’ve already got.
On that basis, you’re much farther than you can see from your vantage point, remember how far you’ve come, and be thankful for your advantages.
You can get smarter 🧠
The tech industry is knowledge work, and it’s competitive.
And after a series of rejections, it’s common to begin to feel like we may not be cut out for it — that we’re just not smart enough.
This may especially be the case for those of us who weren’t raised by parents that spent a lot of time and resources on cultivating our talents like others, or who didn’t have access like our peers.
But it doesn’t matter.
Take a dive into studying neuroplasticity and you’ll discover the amazing potential your mind has to grow into adulthood.
You’re not stuck with a static level of intelligence. And you have the power in your hands to cultivate your own talent as an adult.
Protect your perspective from poison
Don’t let the majority’s scarcity mindset poison your perspective of what is possible.
We’ve all heard it, it’s everywhere:
“The way things are now…”
“In this economy…”
“[blank] is just so expensive…”
“It’s so competitive now, I’ll never…”
Or, there are posts online about how impossible it is to get a job for new grads, how doomed it all is, how the system is rigged, etc.
Run fast and far from this line of thinking.
This perspective of the world is an infectious self-fulfilling prophecy that becomes true only when enough people come together and believe it.
Cut out that noise and talk to people who have gotten what you want, you’ll likely hear a different story. + Be intentional with who you allow to influence your thinking.
